By Air:

Pune Airport is also called Lohegaon Airport. It is situated just 10 km from the city centre and shares a runway with Lohegaon Air Base. It is connected to all major cities in India and also to international destinations via connecting flights from Mumbai and Delhi.

By Rail:

There are two train terminals in Pune and Shivajinagar and these are well-connected to the rest of the country. The local trains will get you to Pune from Khadki, Pimpri, Chinchwad and Lonavala.

By Road:

The new Mumbai-Pune Expressway provides a luxurious ride by bus. Buses also connect Pune to other cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru. There are several government-owned and private bus operators functioning from Pune.

Bund Garden

Bund Garden lies on the right bank of the Mula Mutha River. Constructed by Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy, the primary purpose of this was for providing water to the poor during summer. Shaniwar Wada is situated in Shaniwar Peth, near the railway station of Pune. It is a fort, whose foundation was laid down by Peshwa Baji Rao in the year 1729-30. It took two years to complete the fort and later, many additions were also made to it by the successors of Baji Rao. The amazing architecture of the fort speaks volumes about the competence of the Peshwas in the field of town planning. The entire complex of the Shaniwar Wada comprises of fountains, courtyards, blooming gardens, offices, audience halls and residential quarters.

Katraj Snake Park

Katraj Snake Park, situated on the Pune-Satara Highway, is one of the popular conservation parks in India. It is known for housing a significant population of snakes, birds, turtles and reptiles.

Situated at a distance of approximately eight kilometers from Pune, the park was established in 1986. The credit for the setting up of the Katraj Snake Park goes to Neelam Kumar Khaire, who was aided by the Pune Municipal Corporation. It was in 1999 that the Snake Park was added to the Rajiv Gandhi Udyan and since then, it has become a part of the Udyan. When the park was founded, the main aim was to provide a protected home to snakes, reptiles, birds and turtles. It was only recently that a zoo was added to its premises.

The Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary

The Bhimashankar wildlife sanctuary is located in the Ambegaon taluka of Pune District. This the home of the Giant Indian Squirrel and a huge number of other animals and birds. The sanctuary is spread across an extensive area of 120 square kilometers on the Western Ghats or the Sahyadri ranges. A densely forested area of the Maharashtra, the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary receives heavy rainfall.

This sanctuary is a very popular weekend gateway for the residents of Pune and Mumbai. The tourist spot is positioned at an altitude of 2100 feet to 3800 feet, and is spread over the districts of Pune, Raigad and Thane districts of the north-western part of Maharashtra. There is a shrine in the forest of the wildlife sanctuary, which has the Jyotiralinga temple of Lord Shiva
